A continuous cast billet is a solid metal form commonly used as a starting material in various manufacturing processes. It is produced through a continuous casting method, which involves the controlled solidification of molten metal into a continuous strand or bar shape. The process begins by pouring the molten metal into a water-cooled mould, typically made of copper or steel, which helps in rapid solidification. As the molten metal enters the mould, it starts to solidify from the outer surface inward. Simultaneously, water is circulated through the mould to extract heat and promote solidification.
Rollers or other mechanisms continuously pull The solidifying strand out of the mould. This continuous casting technique allows for the uninterrupted production of long billets, eliminating the need for individual casting moulds. The resulting billets have a consistent cross-sectional shape with a smooth surface finish. They can be further processed into various shapes and sizes according to the specific requirements of different industries.
